EARN CREDITS TOWARD CERTIFICATION
In addition to being a resource for lifelong learning, the IABC Academy offerings support the Global Communication Certification Council’s certification program. If you are interested in applying to the certification program, you may use completed IABC Academy courses to meet the minimum application requirements, as well as to prepare for the exam.
If you are already a certified Communication Management Professional (CMP), completing IABC Academy courses earns you points toward the required annual maintenance of your certification. IABC applies standard measurements for awarding appropriate credits for completed courses.
Certification program applicants: Continuing Education Unit (CEU)
Each hour of a completed Academy course may be used to help satisfy the 40 hours of training required to enter the Communication Management Professional (CMP) certification program. Hours for Academy courses are credited using a traditional Continuing Education Unit (CEU) measurement. One CEU unit is offered for every hour of a completed Academy course. Those who complete a four-hour live or on-demand Academy workshop earn four CEUs.
The CEU is a measurement used in continuing professional development to award credit for participation in workshops, seminars, conferences, etc.
Communication Management Professionals (CMPs): Continuing Professional Development
The Global Communication Certification Council (GCCC) determined that CMPs can earn 10 continuing professional development (CPD) points per eight hours attendance at recognized training or a course of study related to communication, with a maximum of 20 points per event or course. Using this formula, a completed Academy online course earns five CPD credits or five points toward annual maintenance requirements. A maximum of 20 points per year from Academy courses are allowed toward CMP maintenance.
A CPD is a traditional measurement used in continuing professional development to award credit for participation in a broad range of activities, including workshops, seminars, etc.
